Bradford Council and what changes to expect at the Bradford Crematoria

NEWS - 7th April - Beradford Council now allowing a Celebrant or Minister into the Crematoria to say words of Committal. They state that the former will conduct a Humanist ceremony and teh latter a Christian Ceremony - but please note that Celebrants will normally offer both Humanist OR Christian services - and where they offer teh latter do so with faith - so the choice is not as stark as communicated. Bradford Council have no webcast facilities and so state that Funeral Directors might video the words said. We can confirm that we are able to offer this facility. The fee for the Minister or Celebrant and for Videography wouyld be in addition to teh Direct Cremation Fee - and we have tried to indicate approximates for this on our site.

Please note that we offer a fuller facility for immediate families only within our private chapel for all natural cause deaths.

NEWS - 1st April, 2020 - Bradford Council will no longer allow services to take place att he Crematoria Chapels, which until today had been restricted for safety to 20 persons (i.e. close family) with seats to be safely distanced from each other.

Bradford Council requests that no-one approaches the area where the coffin is resting during or at the end of the service - so no touching of the coffin or placing of a flower etc.

Bradford Council removes staff from front of house at Crematoria to protect them from excessive contact. Funeral staff are requested to now carry out those duties of opening and closing doors etc.

Collection of ashes is by Funeral staff only, upon application and no longer from Crematoria. This will mean that collection is not as slick or simple for us, but rest reassured that we will hold ashes for you as before, but would appreciate your understanding if you do not collect from us during thsi period.

Churches

Anglican and Catholic Churches are closed and will not hold gatherings fopr services during this period. Some Priests and Ministers were attending Crematoria Chapels but now that these have closed to services, this will not be possible.

If you require a Minister, we4 would be willing to explore whether a Minister or Priest would attend our private Chapel to hold a small gathering service - but our Celebrant will be available wehilst possible to conduct a family only Christian or Humanist service of celebration and farewell.

National Changes (the new Coronavirus Act 2020 now in operation) to ease the process of Certification and Registering-

Doctors required prior to Cremation and to issue the Cause of Death

More flexibility for doctors - any doctor who is able to issue the medical cause of death certificate (i.e. who has seen your loved one in the last 28 days in person or by conference) or may issue from the surgery records, may now sign the certificate. This helps hard-pressed doctors and helps you to keep things moving if the personal doctor should be ill, away or self-isolating.

The Cause of Death Certificate will be emailed to the Registrar by the surgery or hospital or Hospice who cared for your loved one, so you no longer need to go to rthe suerfgery to collect this certificate. If you ar3e in our care, we will request this certificate for you so you do not need to call the GP surgery or sit in a queue at this difficult time.

There is no requirement during Covid 19 for a Part 2 doctor prior to Cremation: this saves you £82 per Cremation and our funeral costs are adjusted accordingly

Streamlined Registering of Death via telephone

The Registrar will call you to set a time to register over the phone. Face to face registration is not taking place during this period.

There is no physical 'green form' produced for you to take to the funeral director. It is still produced by the Registrar but will be held there, and a digitised copy will be sent directly to whichever local council will be responsible for the Cremation or Burial.

Extension to people who may register on your behalf if there is no family member available
